A short getaway does not necessarily mean travelling to an island. Southern Attica offers seaside towns, archaeological sites and coastal drives that can be combined over three days without changing accommodation. With Saronida as your base, you can spend the first day exploring the area, the second visiting Cape Sounion and the third enjoying an optional trip to Lavrio.

This is not a checklist of everything you need to see. It is a flexible itinerary that leaves room for walks, meals, rest and changes of plan depending on the weather. Especially in autumn, flexibility is often more valuable than a strict timetable.

Before you go: what to plan

Saronida lies along the Athens Riviera coastal route towards Cape Sounion. For a three-day trip with several optional stops, a car offers flexibility, although that does not mean every journey will be short. Check current traffic conditions and transport options before setting off. If you are relying on public transport, look into the services for each individual journey.

Keep one principle in mind: one main excursion per day is enough. With just two overnight stays, your arrival and departure times will largely determine how much time you really have.

Day 1: getting to know Saronida

After arriving and settling in, start with a relaxed walk around the area. Saronida's coastal side is a pleasant setting for coffee, some time by the sea and your first views of the Saronic Gulf. If the weather is good, you can extend your walk or stop for a meal.

There is no need to add a long excursion on your first day. Arriving often takes longer than expected, particularly if you have been driving or flying. A slower start leaves you better placed to enjoy the following days.

If you arrive early and want to see a little more coastline, the Anavyssos area is an optional direction to explore. Otherwise, enjoy the rest of the day in Saronida and at your accommodation.

Day 2: the coastal route to Cape Sounion

Your second day has one main destination: the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion. The ancient temple stands high above the sea and is one of Attica's most recognisable landmarks. The route towards the cape offers coastal views and opportunities for selected stops.

Depending on the season, consider a stop near Charakas or Legrena. There is no need to visit several beaches in one day, however. Choose one that suits the time available and the weather, rather than turning the excursion into a series of hurried drives.

Visiting the Temple of Poseidon

Before setting off, confirm the archaeological site's opening hours and ticket information with the official authority. Hours may vary by season. Cape Sounion is famous for its sunset views, but this does not mean the site remains accessible at any time you choose.

Allow time to visit the site and enjoy the views. For a meal, stop along the route or return to Saronida. If you are travelling with children or people who prefer a gentler pace, keep additional stops to a minimum.

Day 3: Lavrio or one last walk by the sea

If you are leaving later in the day, you could spend part of your final day in Lavrio. The area is associated with Attica's mining history and offers a different perspective from the coastal scenery around Sounion. A harbour walk and a stop for food can round out the trip.

If you need to leave early, staying closer to Saronida may be the better choice. A final coffee, a short walk and a relaxed departure can be more enjoyable than another lengthy drive.

Travelling in October: what changes?

In October, you do not need to build the itinerary around swimming. The coast can be enjoyed through walks, photography and scenic stops. Check the forecast, daylight hours and seasonal opening times before finalising your plans. If beach weather is unlikely, give more time to walks and cultural visits.

Using Saronida as your accommodation base

Saronida Hills is located in Saronida and comprises eight residences. Its official website lists Deluxe Suites Sea View, Executive Suites Sea View and Superior Suites Sea View. Capacity and layout vary, so check the details of the particular accommodation before booking.

Staying in one place makes it easier to organise your trip without moving accommodation every day. Explore the residences at Saronida Hills and choose the one that suits your group and your three-day plans.

Three days with time for what matters

The most enjoyable three-day trip is not necessarily the one with the most stops. Saronida, Cape Sounion and, optionally, Lavrio offer three different views of southern Attica, provided you allow enough time for each. Keep your itinerary flexible and plan the days around your own pace.
